A magnificant battle scene on a monumental scale, in its original period frame. Presented to Bill's Great-grandfather James Bishop, Mayor of Southampton in 1885. Complete with central plaque inscribed with:

Presented to
James Bishop ESQ.
Mayor of Southampton
By a number of his friends as a token of respect
and esteem for his character and the services
which he has rendered during his term of office 1884-85

This work was cleaned and restored sympathetically by messrs Frost and Red around 1960, otherwise as originally painted.

Exhibited at the Institute of Fine Arts in Glasgow and the Royal Academy, London 1890. Acquired by Bill from W.L's studio in tower Street, Old Portsmouth C1960. Relined then, otherwise untouched. Would benefit from cleaning and re-framing.

The yacht Mariquita, which means ‘ladybird’ in Spanish, seen here racing in the Classic Regatta in Cowes 2008. This painting depicts her chasing Mariette, from on board looking forward. Mariquita is a William Fife design and the last known survivor of the 19 Metre class, which was restored by Fairlie Yacht Restorations in 2004.

This painting shows Mariquita, the larger 19 Metre racing in the Classic Regatta in Cowes 2008, looking aft at the two smaller 15 Metres, The Lady Anne and Tuiga. The Lady Anne and Tuiga are two of the last remaining 15 Metres, both designed by William Fife. Tuiga was originally built for the Duke of Medinacelli as an ‘identical’ sistership to his friend the King of Spain’s Hispania.

This painting depicts HMS Victory offloading troops in English Harbour, Antigua in 1805, just prior to her return to Europe for the Battle of Trafalgar. She was under the command of her Captain Thomas M Hardy

Bill Bishop has produced a spectacular painting from the Monaco Classic Regatta 2007, entitled 'Elegance - La Belle Classe' which is now for sale.

The fleet of 'Marigold', 'Tuiga', 'Lulworth', 'Delphine', 'Cambria' and 'Mariquita' are depicted waiting for the breeze to fill in, with a backdrop of mountains and Monte Carlo.
