The Approach to Trafalgar 1805

A private commission showing HMS Victory approaching the French and Spanish line.  Victory has already lost her mizzen topmast and has yet to open fire.   Behind her can be seen Royal Sovereign and Santa Ana heavily engaged.  Part of the brief was that the the lines of ships in the Franco Spanish fleet, led by Santissima Trinidad and Bucentaure should be clearly visible in the painting.
