The Battle of Copenhagen 1801

This painting was commissioned by the Danish Consul in Boston at this specific size to fit a space above his desk. Sketches were made in Copenhagen for accuracy, for the various spires on the skyline and the dockyard in the background. The painting is based on the Nicholas Pocock angle of view, but with a more accurate skyline. The artist included the client in a foreground ship, and he hung a magnifying glass on the picture frame to show himself in the painting to visitors to his study
